In [[1]] presentation the following distinction is made with respect to software source code:
- Right to view
- See the source code and possess a copy
- Right to use
- Compile to an executable and run the resulting application
- Right to modify
- The right to make changes to the source code
- Right to redistribute
- Give the source code to a 3rd party, potentially in modified or unmodified form
