Contrast material–induced acute kidney injury.
CI-AKI occurs in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and in patients with normal kidney function.
- The European Society of Urogenital Radiology defines CI-AKI as an increase in the Serum level of Creatinine more than 0.5 mg/dL or more than 25% within 3 days of administration of contrast material;
- The Acute Kidney Injury Network defines CI-AKI as an increase of 0.3 mg/dL or more in the serum level of creatinine; and Kidney Disease:
- Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) defines AKI as a Serum level of Creatinine 1.5 times or greater than the baseline value or an increase of 0.3 mg/dL or greater
