The poison distribution is used when the probability of 'success' is very small and there are a large number of events. Failed to parse (unknown function "\huge"): {\displaystyle P\left( x \right) = \huge \frac} {{e^{ - \lambda } \lambda ^x }}Template:X!
Examples of a poison distribution:
- number of cars passing a certain point
- number of spelling mistakes per page
- number of phone calls per minute in a calling centre
- number of times a website is accessed per minute
- number of stars in a give volume of space
