In the general framework for mapping resources proposed by Benoit F Leleux the following points are made with respect to Fund-Raising expenses:

  • Fund raising may cost a lot of money, time and effort
  • Therefore it should be planned early when cash is still available.
  • Sources of finance may differ dramatically in costs:
    • Documentation expenses
    • Putting together financial reporting
    • Getting independent audits on the reports
    • Expert advice from accountants, lawyers, investment bankers or consultants
    • Search costs
    • Opportunity costs related to changes in the initial project
